Getting to Know Sokmeng

Getting to Know Sokmeng

This term, we sat down with Sokmeng, a student in our Kid 10A English program, to learn more about his life. Balancing two schools is no easy feat—Sokmeng is also in Grade 6 at his Khmer school. When asked how he manages it all, he answered with a big smile: "It’s a bit boring sometimes, but I’m glad to do it because after studying, I can do whatever I like." This shows his maturity; even when his schedule is tiring, he keeps a positive attitude by looking forward to his free time.
After finishing his schoolwork, Sokmeng’s main escape is soccer. He hits the field with his friends every chance he gets. "Playing soccer helps me feel relaxed and healthy," he shared. It’s more than just a hobby, though—it’s part of his dream to become a professional player. To improve his skills, he often brainstorms tips and strategies with his teammates. Beyond the game, he simply enjoys the company of his friends. Sharing stories with them is his favorite way to de-stress and stay happy.
Sokmeng admits that he doesn't always have as much time for hobbies as he’d like because his studies come first. However, he stays on track by keeping a daily schedule. This interview shows us that Sokmeng isn't just about "play"—he’s someone who tackles his responsibilities head-on before he "chills."
As readers, we can learn a lot from Sokmeng’s balance. His story is a great reminder to stay responsible and organized so we can still find time for the things we love.
